WHO: The Old Brogue Irish Pub of Great Falls, VA and Barnaby Productions, Inc. are proud to present the 20th season of traditional Celtic winter concerts: a six week series that has become an institution in the Washington metro area. These six Sunday evening concerts of top quality music from the British Isles, Brittany (France), the Celtic areas of Northern Spain, and their transplants in the New World, are presented in the Snuggery (dining room). Featuring nationally and internationally recognized Celtic musicians, the concerts are performed by the fireside in a comfortable pub atmosphere, where audiences are requested to be quiet (except, of course, when encouraged to participate!). Please note that this is a non-smoking event. A full dinner menu of the Old Brogue’s fine fare will be available, as well as one of the area’s most extensive collection of choice beers and ales. Space is limited, and these are popular concerts, so booking early is recommended.

FEBRUARY 3: Area favorites AL PETTEWAY and AMY WHITE return to the Old Brogue with their evocative interpretations of the Appalachian musical translations of Scotch-Irish traditions. They present a provocative blend of contemporary, original and traditional instrumental music on acoustic guitars, mandolin, piano, Irish bouzouki, Celtic harp, vocals and world percussion. Their signature sound, which has garnered them a staggering number of awards, is heard daily on NPR and is featured in a number of movies and documentaries. During their live shows, this husband and wife team share colorful stories about the places and events that inspired their music. Once mainstays of the Washington, D.C. music scene, they now live in Asheville, NC, but continue to be record on the Maggie’s Music label.
FEBRUARY 10 Wild and crazy New Orleans based bouzouki player and singer/songwriter BETH PATTERSON brings her traditional and original mix of Celtic, Cajun and folk music to the Old Brogue Concerts.
FEBRUARY 17 Hammered dulcimer maven and owner of national label Maggie’s Music, MAGGIE SANSONE treats the audience to a musical re-enactment of a Celtic Faire (her latest CD) with the help of GRAMMY nominee ANDREA HOAG on fiddle, flute master ROB GREENWAY and percussionist MATTHEW BELL.
FEBRUARY 24 GIVEWAY is a Scottish family affair. The four Johnson sisters -- Fiona , an accomplished fiddler, vocalist, guitarist, pianist and whistle player; Kirsty, a skilled pianist, accordion player and singer; Amy, a talented drummer and accordion player; and Mairi, on piano and keyboard, vocals and bass infuse trad songs and tunes with a little rock ‘n roll, some original licks and a lot of energy!
MARCH 2 THE ANDREA BEATON TRIO pursues the Winter Concerts’ tradition of bringing the energetic vitality of Cape Breton, NS dance and vocal music to the Old Brogue with Andrea on fiddle, keyboards and step, Buddy MacDonald (singer/guitar playe) and a piano player TBA. This one is a MUST SEE!
MARCH 9 IONA, the East Coast’s foremost, high energy pan-Celtic band, leads an audience interactive tour of all the Celtic lands, including the biggest – America. Lead vocalist (guitars, bouzouki and bodhrán), often sings in the diverse Celtic languages, and is joined by Bernard Argent on flute, whistles, percussion and vocals, Scottish fiddler, Cassie Smith-Christmas, Jim Queen on fiddle, banjo and vocals, and Chuck Lawhorn on bass guitar, vocals and whistle.
